Setting up SASL on TheLounge

Your TheLounge client can automatically identify you to NickServ when it connects.

Steps

  1. Edit the network in your TheLounge settings.
  2. Choose your Authentication Mechanism:
    • Client Certificate (SASL External) — Recommended. No password sent. Always identified automatically.
      Cons: May occasionally lose certificate and/or forget password.
    • Username + Password (SASL Plain) — Enter your NickServ username and password.
    • No authentication — For unregistered users or manual /NS identify.
  3. Disconnect and reconnect (/DISCONNECT then /CONNECT). If using Client Certificate, manually IDENTIFY first, then /NS CERT ADD.

CAUTION: DO NOT type /QUIT — this will clear your TheLounge settings and reset networks to defaults!
