What is SASL?

SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) is a method of authenticating to IRC4Fun's NickServ before your connection is fully established. This is useful for automatically identifying to your nickname and is required for TOR connections.

Client Configuration

AdiIRC

Go to Server Properties → Login Method and select SASL (/CAP). Enter your NickServ username and password.

HexChat

Go to HexChat → Network List → Edit. Set Login Method to SASL (username + password). Enter your NickServ credentials.

irssi

/network add -sasl_username YourNick -sasl_password YourPassword -sasl_mechanism PLAIN IRC4Fun
/server add -auto -net IRC4Fun -tls -tls_verify irc.irc4fun.net 6697

Konversation

Go to Settings → Configure Konversation → Identities → Auto Identify and select SASL, then enter your NickServ credentials.

mIRC

Use the following commands in the Perform section:
CAP REQ :sasl
AUTHENTICATE PLAIN

Textual (macOS)

Go to Server Properties → Identity and enter your NickServ username and password under the SASL section.

WeeChat

/set irc.server.irc4fun.sasl_mechanism plain
/set irc.server.irc4fun.sasl_username YourNick
/set irc.server.irc4fun.sasl_password YourPassword

ZNC

Load the SASL module: /msg *status LoadMod sasl
Configure: /msg *sasl Set YourNick YourPassword

IRCCloud

IRCCloud supports SASL natively. Enter your NickServ credentials in the network settings.

SASL EXTERNAL (Client Certificates / CertFP)

Instead of sending a password, you can use a TLS client certificate to authenticate. This is more secure and is the recommended method.

See Identifying with NickServ for information on setting up CertFP.
