X-Lines

The following is a list of X-lines used on IRC4Fun.

NOTE:

  • Keep in mind, not all X-lines are “bad” or restrictive.
  • Duration (listed as 2d) in Syntax examples can be changed as needed. (Such as 7d for 7 days)
  • Restrictive X-lines should be a last resort.  We’d rather correct the behavior, if possible.
  • Be sure to remember the Acceptable Operating Policies (AOP).
  • Be sure to only punish for violations of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

Restrictive X-Lines

A/GA-Line(s)

Description: ALINE Restricts access (similar to a K-line) to the local server *unless* the affected clients (successfully) authenticate using SASL at connection.  GALINE Restricts access (similar to a G-line) to the entire network *unless* the affected clients (successfully) authenticate using SASL at connection.

Syntax: /ALINE user@host 2d :Reason for ALINE  or   /GALINE user@host 2d :Reason for GALINE    To remove: /ALINE user@host  or  /GALINE user@host

G-Line(s)

Description: Restricts access to the entire network.  (This should be done in OperServ instead of with the /GLINE command — see /msg OperServ HELP AKILL ADD.)

Syntax: /GLINE user@host 2d :Reason for GLINE    To remove: /GLINE user@host

K-Line(s)

Description: Restricts access to the local server, only.

Syntax: /KLINE user@host 2d :Reason for KLINE    To remove: /KLINE user@host

Q-Line(s)

Description: Restricts usage of the affected nickname(s).  This is generally not necessary and managed via OperServ*.

Syntax: /QLINE Nickname* 2d :Reason nickname is not allowed    To remove: /QLINE Nickname

*Keep in mind that as Q-lines are managed by OperServ; removing one will not make the nickname(s) available again necessarily..  OperServ will re-add Q-lines on nicknames that match it’s database, which will usually result in the offending user being /KILL‘d by OperServ as it re-adds the Q-line.

Z-Line(s)

Description: Restricts access to the entire network.  (This should be done in OperServ instead of with the /ZLINE command — see /msg OperServ HELP AKILL ADD.)

Syntax: /ZLINE ip-address 2d :Reason for ZLINE    To remove: /ZLINE ip-address

Un-restrictive X-Lines

E-Line(s)

Description: Gives un-bannable access to the entire network.  (This is generally only used for admins, staff, and allowed IRC crawlers)

Syntax: /ELINE ip-address 2d :Reason for ELINE and on WHO    To remove: /ELINE ip-address
