Using TOR on IRC4Fun

IRC4Fun allows connections from TOR (The Onion Router). However, TOR connections require SSL (port 6697) and SASL authentication.

Requirements

  • You must have a registered nickname, or you can register one with our website.
  • You will need to connect once (without TOR) and use NickServ's IDENTIFY command: /NS IDENTIFY MyAccount MyPassword (This is required so that NickServ can download your account from the website database)
  • You must connect using SSL (port +6697)
  • You must use SASL to authenticate

HexChat Configuration

  1. Set up your TOR proxy in HexChat's network settings
  2. Enable SASL authentication
  3. Connect to irc.irc4fun.net on port +6697

Channel Operators

If you are a Channel Operator and want to ban TOR users from your channel, you can use the extended ban: /mode #channel +b n:TOR or /mode #channel +b *!tor-sasl@*

Some TOR nodes may be DNS Blacklisted

If you are using TOR with SASL and find yourself Z-lined in a DNS Blacklist; you will need to try to use a different TOR session or node. TOR addresses previously used for abuse can end up in DNS Blacklists, such as DroneBL. (We have no way of removing these listings)
