Starting Your Own Channel
Creating and managing a channel on IRC4Fun is straightforward. Here are some tips to help you get started.
Creating a Channel
Simply join a channel that doesn't exist yet:
/join #YourChannelName
If the channel is empty and unregistered, you will be given temporary @operator status.
Registering with ChanServ
To permanently own your channel, register it with ChanServ:
/msg ChanServ REGISTER #YourChannel A description of your channel
You must be identified with NickServ to register a channel.
Channel Tips
- Channel Temperature — Keep your channel active by being present and chatting. Don't raise the channel's "temperature" by flexing or abusing your
@Operatorpowers. - De-escalation — Handle conflicts calmly and fairly; don't abuse operator powers. De-escalation is always better than Escalation.
- Burnout — Running a channel can be tiring. Consider adding trusted operators to share the workload.
- Set a topic — Use
/topic #channel Your topic hereto describe your channel - Set Entrymsg(s) — Use
/msg ChanServ entrymsg #channel add Some helpful information that ChanServ will send to users upon joining your channel.(You can add up to 3) - Assign a Bot — Use
/msg BotServ botlistto get a list of BotServ bots that you can assign to your channel, to replace ChanServ. Once you find a Bot you like, use:/msg BotServ ASSIGN #channel BotNick
Appealing Bans
Setup a Bans appeal channel for your channel. We recommend something like #yourchannel-ops where banned or muted users can discuss or request unbans/etc.
If you've been banned from a channel, try contacting the channel operators directly. IRC4Fun Staff are unable to unban users from non-IRC4Fun managed channels.
