Server & Services Changes

Coming Soon: Server & Services Changes

Changes completed – see our newest post for more information.

IRC Server changes

We will be changing our IRCd software from Nefarious IRCu to InspIRCd 3.*.  This will allow us to not only continue to provide an optimal IRC experience and home to our channels & users, but will also allow us to add new enhancements to the network (such as new features, IRCv3, SASL, new modes, etc.)

IRC Services changes

We will also be moving over to Anope IRC Services in order to provide Nickname Registration, Channel Registrations, Memos, etc.  We chose Anope because of it’s enhanced features and compatibility with the new InspIRCd3 servers.

Nicknames & Accounts-

With our new services providing Nickname Registration, nicknames are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.  HOWEVER, users who held accounts on X will be given priority on the nickname that they wish to register. (For Example: Sally used to have the username ‘SallyQueen’ — If she wanted to register the nickname ‘SallyQueen’ but found it taken by another user, IRC4Fun Staff can intervene and give the nickname to Sally.)  This only applies to usernames formerly registered through X.

Channels-

In order to ensure that no channels are “taken over”, channels which were registered on X have been held open until the legitimate owner registers a NickServ account and joins.

(Most owners have been added to an “AutoOp” mode (+w) which will op them as they join, allowing them to register the channel with ChanServ.)

Users can also email Help @ IRC4Fun.net (using the email address that was on their X account) after registering a Nickname (with the same email address) with NickServ, letting us know that they would like to reclaim their channels.

*The ability to reclaim channels using X’s records will be discontinued in the near future.  Please claim your channels as soon as possible.  Any reports of takeovers should be addressed in #Help or via Help @ IRC4Fun.net.

The migration is scheduled to begin Sunday, October 10th, 2021 at 12:00AM CST.
